I am not able to send/receive MMS, but I will work on that next. How to Update Your iPhone 4 Without Upgrading the Baseband (Mac) After Cydia was installed, I installed ultrasn0w, rebooted, and I am now able to make calls, send txt messages, and even able to use cellular data over an edge connection through t-mobile. I thought that was odd.Īlso, I was not sure what options to select in redsn0w, so I just went with the default of just installing cydia and left everything else unselected. I then pointed redsn0w to the original FW (iPhone2,1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw) and that worked. I first tried the custom 4.1.2 I had created with pwnagetool, but that was rejected. Although that worked, I was confused by what ipsw it required. In any case, I am now running 4.1.2 and have preserved the old baseband and bootrom. I am not sure if that is what made the difference, or if it because the new mac had a clean install. That mac had an older version of iTuens (9.2.1). I have had some success! I tried the restore to the custom 4.1.2 FW from iTunes on a different macintosh, and it worked. If you don’t know how to drop a bundle into PwnageTool.app, please hold off on 4.2.1 until it’s untethered for everyone (or wait for a nice tutorial from somewhere like iClarified - Apple News and Tutorials) To actually jailbreak after you’ve restored with the help of that bundle, please use redsn0w. Be sure to uncheck “Activate the iPhone” using Expert mode. ![]() Update #3: For those Mac users with an old-bootrom 3GS who really know what they’re doing, here’s a minimal 3GS 4.2.1 bundle that will get you to 4.2.1 without updating your baseband. It seems to me that Pwnagetool 4.1.3 is intended for use on phone with 05.14.02, 05.15.04 basebands. Update to firmware 4.1.2 using custom firmware created in Pwnagetool Add the 3GS bundle described in update #3ģ.
